Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced a package of measures on the eve of Merdeka aimed at easing household pressures and supporting businesses.
Among the measures is the restoration of the monthly BUDI95 subsidised petrol quota from 200 to 300 litres, while the diesel quota will rise from 300 to 400 litres. The BUDI95 limit had been temporarily reduced in April amid global energy supply pressures.
Education will receive an additional RM500 million for schools nationwide, including Chinese, Tamil, missionary and religious schools.
For young Malaysians, the government will provide free access to AI education and tools, aimed at equipping them with skills for an increasingly AI-driven economy.
Anwar also announced RM1 billion to upgrade electronic medical records and WiFi connectivity across 150 hospitals, improving the efficiency of public healthcare.
Small businesses will receive significant relief. The mandatory e-Invoice threshold will be raised from RM1 million to RM3 million, while an additional RM1 billion in microfinancing and RM200 million in grants will be made available to support entrepreneurs and small businesses.
The measures are expected to take effect from September 2026, extending assistance across households, education, healthcare, youth development and businesses.
Anwar had earlier said he would make an important national announcement on the eve of Merdeka.
